It is interesting when it comes to talk about what worship means to you....I have received many different answers. What is worship to you personally and corporately?
We are familiar with the story about David driven out the evil spirits in Saul whenever he played music for him. Saul was in desperate need of his help.....Saul noticed there's something in the music that has the power to drive out the evil spirits that are trying to trouble him.
How about back to our contemporary worship....do you feel noisy about the music being played in church? Have you been complaining about that too?
We worship:
- when we use songs to lift up the name of Jesus (we exalt Him above all our circumstances whether good or bad, we acknowledge Him as Sovereign over our lives and circumstances and most of all, we proclaim the greatness of Jesus' name in front of the enemies (the evil spirits and demons in the spiritual realm).
If you are in the music team....you have an important role up there....to proclaim to the enemies that you yourself belong to Christ, you are not singing to yourself or even to the congregation but to the enemies of Christ in the spiritual realm....you play an important role.
Surely you as the singer are to exalt the name of Jesus, enjoying in the worshipping time, also to create an atmosphere of praise in your church. Creating an atmosphere of praise is another important aspect of worship. Many times we get so distracted even in church....don't you agree? As we are drawing near to God's throne in worship...we exalt His name, we cast down all our cares unto Him through worshipping Him, acknowledging Him is the greatest and the strongest in our lives.
Worship is not simply singing songs you see?
It has many meanings to worship, it has many meanings itself...
Songs can be beautiful, they help us to mediate more on God's goodness, songs draw our hearts to be thanking God for what He has done in our lives....
It's a big contrast to the secular songs...many involve sexual content, love (not God's way), hatred, murders....etc. If we listen carefully to those songs and its lyrics.....we see how big the difference it is compared to the gospel or worship music created by Christians.....
As we lift up the name of Jesus....our spirits are lifted to the Lord in thankful praises.....totally different....through the songs, we express our thanks to God....
So next time don't call worship like it is just singing songs.
Worship is worship...truly worshipping the great God we serve....
